Pro-Hamas Rally In Irvine Draws Many Israel Supporters
I met a fellow blogger Gary Fouse today at the University of California, Irvine to attend the pro-Hamas rally scheduled for 11:30. Irvine, and its university, is pretty well known for an active extremist Muslim minority and a submissive college administration, so protests there always offer a good chance of conflict and outrage. Today it was quite tame. The Muslim Hamas supporters milling around were subdued but for the speakers who stood gritting their teeth and crying piteously for the innocent Gazans who, by no fault of their own, found themselves bombed “back into the stone age” by rapacious Jews armed by the American imperialists. What wasn’t so predictable was that half the crowd attending the protest against Israel were Israel supporters, and throughout the speeches you could see them marching around and behind the speakers with their poignant signs. Altogether, I’m proud of the Southern California Jewish community for its strong showing today. I hope to see many times more on Saturday in Los Angeles!
I’ve included here five videos (one of the mother of an IDF soldier, Allyson Rowen Taylor, and four of the speakers featured at the rally) and eight photos.
I want to say a few words about Mrs. Rowan Taylor. It’s one thing to show up to what might be a hostile protest with a sign condemning terror. It’s quite another to announce the investment you have in Israel defending itself. Carrying a sign declaring that her son was a soldier in the IDF, Allyson parked herself in the front row by the speakers and let them know that, like her son, she wasn’t backing down. If you believe, like I do, that this war is a moral battle as much as a military one, then every one of us has a responsibility to get out and make the case. Thanks again to Mrs. Rowan Taylor for the inspiration she provides!
On Saturday I’ll be joining several conservative bloggers and friends as we drive into Los Angeles to counter-protest the ANSWER march against Israel. Anyone who wants to join us, please email me at shaneborgess@yahoo.com!
The crowd was lively, with Israel supporters making a strong showing today.
What would the oppressed in Gaza do with their freedom?
The prayer at the beginning of the rally was unintelligible, but he had a nice singing voice.
With beauties like this, why isn’t there peace in the Middle East?
The Israeli supporters tended to smile a lot. The Hamas followers looked demoralized.
The UCI Republicans made an appearance! From left to right are Chasen Bullock, Paul Wysocki and Arthur Kinsey.
Is it a dream, or a delusion?
Hamas supporters put out nearly 700 white markers for all the Palestinians who have died since the beginning of the Israeli offensive. I asked a kid in green how many of the markers were Hamas terrorists. He told me rudely to reproduce with myself.
So I learned one sure thing today – terrorist sympathizers have no sense of humor!

Thanks for letting us in on your day.
It strikes me that when you hear Israeli’s talk about the “conflict,” they tell the history so that listeners will have an opportunity to understand. As the soldier’s mother did, she spoke of what must change before there can be peace. We hear nothing of this from the pro-Palestinians. They worry not about their message except speak of the victimhood.
They know there will never be peace, because they will never allow it.
It’s interesting to hear that so much angst is spent on the student’s contribution to Israel through taxes. At her age, I’m thinking she pays few, if any taxes.
I, on the otherhand, pay my share and it grieves me – make that – makes me madder than hell, that my money goes to Hamas.
Excellent reporting. I think you will face much more fury in the Saturday march in L.A. Go prepared, my friend, and thanks so very much for making Maggie’s Notebook your featured blog this week. What a nice surprise.
BTW, your conversation about the white markers: hilarious. What a great question you asked.

Thanks Maggie. And you make a good point there about our tax money going to Hamas. Millions of our dollars go to the Palestinians, and it pains me to watch Condileeza Rice explain such naivete away.
But I look forward to Saturday – it feels good to make a stand!

Funny how they never point out any section of the Hamas charter, the fact that they started this war, and the fact that they are losing it very fast.
Great pics and videos.

Anti-Israel Protest at UC-Irvine
Today, the Muslim Student Union (MSU) and Society of Arab Students (SAS)at UC-Irvine held an hour long rally on campus to demonstrate against the Israeli military action in Gaza. I am happy to report that there were no unfortunate incidents, nor was there any hate speech. At least I didn’t hear any.
I am also happy to report that the local Jewish community turned out to show their support of Israel. There were plenty of Israeli flags handed out (yes, I carried one.) Pro-Israel posters were everywhere including one held by a lady that said, “Proud Mom of an IDF soldier”. It was clear that on this occasion, the pro-Hamas people were outnumbered. Yet, we didn’t not attempt to disrupt the program. We let the speakers have their say.
As they always do, the MSU opened up the program with a prayer in Arabic and a reading from the Koran. Two or three students who apparently had family in Gaza spoke about their perception of the situation. Thankfully, there were no Amir Abdel Malik Alis, Alim Musas or Mohammed al-Asis present to spout their venom.
Of course, it would not have been complete without the obligatory talk by a university professor. His full name escapes me and I don’t know him, so I won’t bother with a partial name. Suffice to say, his 15 minute talk was laughable. One would think that a teacher would have some sort of a lesson plan to work with-you know, introduction, body, conclusion. The gentleman began his rambling talk by describing a situation in the Holy Land in the 1940s where Arabs and Jews were working hand-in-hand. Then he made a reference to how it was “all swept away by the events of the 1948 war”. Of course, he conveniently left out any mention of how in 1948 the whole Arab world declared war when Israel declared itself an independent state. (I guess he didn’t want to bore us with details.)
But bore us he did as he rambled on to talk about imperialism and the “Big Empire”, which as it turns out was that certain empire that supplies the F-16s that Israel uses to………well, you get the message. You gotta hand it to the lefties on our university campuses; they can’t talk very long about Israel without launching into an attack on the bad old USA.
At any rate, the good professor mercifully cut short his “speech” because he had a 12:30 class to teach, so he left to go bore his own class. (even the MSU students were left in a daze.)
After an hour, the MSU/SAS formed into a line, shouted something in Arabic and proceeded to march up and around Ring Road that circles around the campus. (That’s a long march, so nobody bothered to follow them.)
Thanks and kudos to members of the local Jewish community-many of them senior citizens who had been informed about the event and took the trouble to come and show their support for Israel.
And thanks to Shane for coming out to support the few sane voices at UCI.

Wow!!!! I am not surprised to state that you must be a one-sided, biased Israeli supporter! You should really seek truth and knowledge before you open your mouth and blab complete nonsense! Try opening your mind and maybe the world will get somewhere….FREE PALESTINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I must say that as a supporter of Israel, you really help to nourish the stereotype of the crazy right-wing nutjob. I applaud your success. However, I did find that some things on this site left a rather sour taste in my mouth. It could have just been the orange I ate, but I like to think it was your lack of respect for your fellow human beings.
For example, questioning what the people of Gaza would do with their freedom, utterly demolishing the idea of “freedom for all.” For that idea, please try to refrain from reproducing with yourself. Next, your ridiculous attempt at dark humour when you asked how many of the deceased were Hamas operatives, which you eloquently followed up with a witty quirk about how people don’t understand your brand of humour. I will spare you the remainder of my ranting, and end my blog entry with this: may your conscience be with you.

It’s ironic that you, as a terrorist supporter, would use the names of Ender’s Game characters to hide behind. I recently spoke to Orson Scott Card on a political show, and he would never support the horror you celebrate. The man is a Democrat with a hatred for Islamic fascism. You’re a tool.
You speak of conscience – when you can’t tell the difference between terrorists who use children as human shields and the soldiers who hunt them down. Put down the bong and let your head clear. You’ve become a part of the problem…
