Does Media Anti-War Bias Result In More War?

Hot Air has a post about a study by two Harvard economists who question whether the media’s continuing bias against American involvement in Iraq has resulted in strengthening the insurgency there. We don’t need to study Iraq to know the answer to the question of media influence in war – take a look at the Vietnam war and the role that the television and print media played in gutting American resolve and inspiring hope in our enemies. Polls taken at the time showed support for the war and the reasons we were over there. A loud minority of hopped up hippies and a few television newsreaders were able to slander the military and turn the Tet offensive from a stunning victory that put the murdering communists on the edge of surrender, to an utter failure that proved American incompetence. So we withdrew “with honor” and millions were executed and re-educated by those Jane Fonda befriended as kindred spirits.

That is where the left earned its value as the useful idiots for dictators and tyrants. Fidel Castro, when asked by his rich supporters what they could get him to carry on his revolution against Batista and the Cuban people, he didn’t want weapons or ammunition, he answered “Get me a reporter.” The New York Times sent Herbert Matthews and the dirt roads ran red with blood even as the hero Castro was lauded here in America as freedom’s conscience. The New York Times has a long history of abetting murderous regimes. Is it so surprising that they have sought to undermine America in this war against murderers?

But it seems each year I grow older the less the generation before me knows about our history and the lessons we ought to have learned from it. The Iraq war is the Vietnam war for the ignorati – so again we labor to prove what has already been proven.

Here is the article and the particulars that work to strengthen (or weaken) the case. If you need to have the case made for you, start in 1939 and read forward.
