Oliver Stone To Make Film On Bush; Says Trust Him
Oliver Stone has been traipsing around the world hugging dictators, but there is one zealot he’s been aching to get on film before the upcoming elections – George Bush. But don’t worry, he says – its a study of the man, not a shlockumentary created to warm the hearts of Bin Laden and his army. Should we believe the director of anti-war movies like Platoon and JFK? Let’s go though some of his latest constructive criticisms of the president and the country.
“Bush makes Nixon look like St. Augustine,” he says of the saint known for his zeal in confessing wrongs. “At least Nixon had some intelligence and a conscience….[ellipses in original] Bush is The Manchurian Candidate,” a reference to the 1962 movie about a presidential contender manipulated by immoral handlers…..”
Bush is without some intelligence and a conscience?
“[Bush says] ‘We’re pursuing terrorists. No, George, you’re not. You’re a flake. Be serious. Override the Pentagon. Take casualties, if you’ve got the guts. But don’t go starting another war with Iraq that could be far more devastating in its implications for us.”
Bin Laden says ‘We’re pursuing Americans.’ Guess we ought to take him seriously, eh?
George W. Bush, he says: “He’s worse than Nixon in his vulgarity. He looks like he shops at Wal-Mart. That’s not what the president is supposed to be. He has no intellectual curiosity and is proud of it.”
Looks like you got that suit jacket from Wal Mart.
“Bin Laden was completely protected by the oil companies in this country who told President Bush not to go after him because it would piss off the Saudis.”
That explains a lot. I wonder if Zarqawi had the same deal?
“I think that conspiracy-mongering on 9/11 is a waste of time,” he said. “The far greater conspiracy occurred after 9/11 when basically a neo-cabal inside our government hijacked policy and went to war. That was as broad a conspiracy as we can get and it was about 20, 30 people. That’s all, they took over and all these books are coming out and they are pointing it out,” said Stone.
“This war on Iraq is a disaster. I’m disgraced. I’m ashamed for my country,” he said. “I’m also ashamed that America has attacked itself with its constitutional breakdowns. I’m deeply ashamed.”
You’re ashamed for your country and I’m ashamed of you – works for the both of us!
“They control culture. They control ideas. And I think the revolt of September 11th was about ?F– you! F– your order.” — Oliver Stone on American corporations
I think the attack of September 11th was about hating liberals like you, Oliver.
Q: If you had 30 hours with George W Bush, what would you be trying to get out of him?
A: The truth: I don’t think it’s possible to get 30 hours with Bush. I think he’s scared of the camera. I saw a documentary with a young woman he did, and he just joshes with her all the time. He never confronts anybody, and he never looks you in the eye. It’s all “Hey buddy, how are yah?” all that American slang language. It’s not dialogue, it’s not feeling. He has a shallow manner, which is a complete contradiction to Castro. Castro will talk to you. He’s a real human being. I see George Bush as a synthetic person. As I once said, he’s an ex-alcoholic who believes in Jesus. What could be more dangerous!
President Bush endures your political diarrhea. Castro would jail you and then have you shot.
“It is pretty bad right now. People are being killed every day in huge numbers. You can’t be a civilian there. … It’s not a livable situation. We brought that havoc there. What could be worse?”
Stone acknowledged that “bloodshed could go up” immediately after an American withdrawal. But, he noted, “they said the same thing about Vietnam.”
Apparently in Oliver’s world there were no re-education camps, killing fields or mass graves.
“If there had been a better sense of preparation, if we had a leadership that was more mature. We did not fight back in the same way that the British fought the IRA or the Spanish government fought the Basques here. Terrorism is a manageable action. It can be lived with.”
Did Oliver ask any of the families who had loved ones murdered on 9/11 if they can live with it?
The Oscar-winning director, who made a 2003 documentary about Cuban President Fidel Castro as well as the movie “Platoon,” called Chavez a “great man” and said “I’m a fan.”
Urging Stone to speak with reporters, Chavez told him in accented English: “The girls want to see you!” He joked that Stone was President Bush’s “envoy.”“There are some good Americans. That’s why I’m here, to remind you,” Stone said.
I hope he was pointing toward Texas when he said that.
“We should look to (Castro) as one of the Earth’s wisest people, one of the people we should consult.”
Is that before or after we smoke a giant bong load?
What can one say about a man who cannot recognize a thuggish dictator when he’s sees one, instead choosing to slash away at the caricature he has built up in his conspiratorial mind? For a man who faced bullets in Vietnam, what are we to make of the cowardice of attacking the leader who must endure it instead of the tyrant who jails political prisoners on his bloody island? No, I wouldn’t trust Oliver Stone to do a “fair” representation of George Bush. He can’t even give us a “fair” representation of Fidel Castro, because he likes him! Now he claims he’ll be “fair” to a man he loathes?
Let’s all give Oliver Stone the salute he has earned. Then unceremoniously trash his offer…
