South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford On the Stimulus

Great interview with South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford about the proposed stimulus package being debated in Washington, and in the process of this conversion lays out some good old fashioned economic advice. Mainly that government cannot solve all of our problems and that there is an immoral aspect to spending trillions of dollars, and that is that it will enslave future generations.

The fact is that at some point Americans have to live up to the decisions that they have made over the past decade or so. You cannot continue to bail out people or state governments without at the very least putting restrictions that begin to change the borrowing and spending patterns that have been the primary culprit of this financial crisis. Americans have become drunk with borrowing money, money that many have no ability to pay back, and I would dare to go so far as to say never had any intentions of paying back. Unless the ‘have now, pay later attitude’ changes in the near future, every politician that comes down the pipe will disappoint and many Americas will continue to suffer from economic hardships. Hard lessons need to learned, but they need be.
