Ship of Inevitability hits rocks, starts leaking…
Leaking tears, that is.
Hillary Clinton is falling apart. Months ago we all expected that even if she were unable to persuade enough voters to support here, her team of goons behind her would twist the appropriate arms. She is beginning to prove that one gauges the strength of a team by its weakest member – who would have thought it was Hillary? Her campaign has been stunned into confusion, and we see reports of her breaking down at a diner in New Hampshire. They say its the pressure of the campaign that has driven her to tears, but those tears are dissolving the monument she has been building as a testament to her toughness and ability to weather the pressures of being president. If a battle against a fellow Democrat confounds her, then how will she react as president to challenges with far more on the line than her aspirations?
As I’ve written before, the story about Iowa was not who won, but what tact those who didn’t win would take. Hillary losing to Obama was unfortunate, but not disastrous. Losing to John Edwards – that’s disastrous. John Edwards is patently dishonest and leaves an oily trail where ever he roams – that he should outshine Hillary at this point in time is perplexing, indeed. My eyes have been on Hillary since Iowa, expecting her to go hardcore negative, testing the strength of the halo that Obama has been flaunting. The recent debate proved my prognostication, but today’s break down disproves my confidence in her team being able to out maneuver Obama and protect their investment at the same time.
The Republican debate on FOX last night was refreshing – long answers to challenging questions, I can’t really see how anyone could watch the opposing debates and not recognize that substance was found in red and platitudes in blue. Governor Huckabee is being unveiled as a populist with a bible, which might still work for the primaries, but it will take all of his charm to gloss over the thinner parts of his resume. Romney was on his game last night. Thompson was engaged and offered more than he has in a while. It was good to see Giuliani, who has been quiet for so long that I wondered if his grand plan to wait it out until the Eastern primaries was just an excuse to buy time for a hair transplant. John McCain, national hero, sitting atop the polls in New Hampshire played it safe, but looked good as well. Considering the B team that we have representing the Republican party as candidates for president, they all were sharp and seemed like athletes in shape for the big game.
New Hampshire tomorrow night. Who wins may be more important here just because of who didn’t in Iowa, but our focus ought to remain on the chess match being played between campaign managers of the various candidates. Hillary is letting it all out, willing to fight or cry to garner votes. Political Vindicati0n will be on the radio tomorrow night calling out the numbers from New Hampshire. Put on your campaign manager hats and join us.
