Elite America: Patronizing Freedom

As we approach the fall season, I wish that so many wouldn’t take it literally. I’m talking about the collective effort by the media and leaders in higher education to define deviancy down. It isn’t enough that Iran’s presidential kidnapper and Islamo-Nazi mouthpiece Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wants to have a party at ground zero, he’ll be peeking out from behind a lectern at the once respected Columbia University and gabbing with a groomed anchor on 60 minutes as well. Some argue that in an age where words like ‘dictator’ and ‘Nazi’ have lost their meaning, there’s no other place better to showcase evil than America’s notoriously leftist campuses – where President Bush and Darth Cheney are considered dangerous to world peace. But do you think campuses would appreciate the irony?

The president of Columbia University insists he’ll be tough on lil’ Nuke. He’s gonna ask him hard questions. Make him answer questions from the audience. What do you think some of those questions from our pachouli scented students might be?

‘Mr. President – how’s the surfing in your country?’

‘Mr. Mahmood – I heard Iranians get stoned a lot in your country – but that’s illegal here – what up with that?’

‘Sir, when are you gonna nuke Israel – those Jews are killing people!’

In all seriousness, granting terror sponsoring mouthpieces time on our television shows and college campuses when there are heroic Americans and civilized world leaders worthy of the privilege speaks volumes about where our elites are taking us. But you want to give educators the benefit of the doubt, it’s not like they’re giving away state secrets (NY Times) or traveling across the world to kiss the feet of a Syrian executioner (Kucinich) – universities are all about diversity of opinion. Mahmood was invited because it offers students the chance to hear a different perspective. It’s just a shame that its easier for a terrorist to get a speaking gig at a university than a conservative!

For all of the complaining from the right, we have to admit that while Ahmadinejad talks a good game about wiping Israel off the map and hunting down Americans – he’s no Hitler. Hitler has his own invitation to speak at Columbia straight from the dean. It begs the question – who’s next on the Columbia Distinguished Dictators Lecture Series? Omar Al-Bashir from Sudan? Kim Jong-il from North Korea? Robert Mugabe from Zimbabwe?

When our educators deliver us students that can’t tell the difference between Herr Hitler and President Bush, we can’t expect them to recognize that patronizing freedom by ennobling tyrants diminishes every life lost defending it. This is another chance for us to educate the educated, and remind Americans that there’s few as foolish as the university elite…

Hi — great article. And so important. It is a national disgrace. And to answer your question, they would jump at the chance to book all of those people.
These delusional elites seem to think that we’re in an international debating society. They think we are in a gentlemanly contest of words, and that they can contribute to this exercise in free speech and open debate. To advance their liberal agenda they have sacrificed their loyalty and their patriotism. To them in fact, these words have become tainted. They see themselves as having risen above the fray. They have always been around and they have always been wrong.
Dialogue is great if you’re not a good-looking, long-haired brunette dealing with the advances of a Ted Bundy.
These academics cannot conceive of a disagreement that cannot be resolved with language.

God help our children. And God help us.
